Thanks
Jim
Hi Jim,
Thank you for your interest in Celebration Saunas. Great Question. The maximum temperature of a far infrared sauna is 140 degrees. We use different technology in an infrared sauna than what you find in traditional steam or hot rock saunas that can get up to higher temperatures. An infrared sauna is considered durable medical equipment and it is used to treat a multitude of conditions from dermatology, to cardiology, from oncology to endocrinology. The difference between Far infrared sauna versus traditional steam and hot rock sauna is in the science. In a dry, steam or hot rock sauna you are utilizing a principle called convection heat. Convection means that we heat the air and then the body. This heat penetrates the body 3 millimeters deep, and of all the sweat released in your sauna session, only 3% of your sweat contains toxins released. A temperature of 180 degrees to 200 degrees in a convection environment is ideal for a mean dinner roast but can be dangerous to the human body when used for extended periods of time. In these dry saunas you are kinda slow-roasting yourself, and some have died from staying in this style of sauna for too long.
In an infrared sauna, we use a principle called radiant heat. This type of heat warms your body directly with light energy. Your body produces far infrared light in the form of body heat at 9.4 microns and so do our saunas. We are essentially manufacturing body heat in our saunas. Just like if you were to hold your hands together the cells of your hands would charge one another, and your hands will increase in temperature. If you stay there long enough your hands will begin to sweat from every pore even though the air temperature around your hands has not changed. The heat of an infrared sauna will penetrate the body 4 inches deep and of all the sweat produced 20% is toxins released from the body. You also get numerous Health Benefits including heart health, weight loss, detoxification, pain relief, and a multitude of documented benefits for more than 50 years.
I know it sounds counter-intuitive that you would sweat more at lower temperatures but it is absolutely true. I use my sauna at 122 degrees and sweat more than I ever did at 140. The reason is that at 118-122 degrees we are matching the human body’s bandwidth of far infrared light exactly, so your body has no resistance to the infrared and takes it on readily. It’s important to note that once your body is fully charged the far-infrared light passes on through harmlessly. Your body will never exceed 100 degrees or a low-grade fever when using a sauna. In other words, no one has ever died or become sick as a result of far infrared sauna use.
