We know, shopping the infrared sauna industry is not an easy task and we commend you for your bravery and diligence in researching all the information you can about saunas to help you choose the best sauna for you. Which is why we wrote this simple guide. We wanted to address the 10 most common Infrared Sauna Myths that consumers encounter so that you have the right information to make the best choice for you. Let’s dig in!
1. I Can’t Put a Sauna in my House!
Of course you can put a sauna in your house. It’s not like the old days when it had to take up a big part of your yard or be built into your home, required a drain, a 240 Circuit, expensive heaters, messy water, not to mention a builder to install this project. Not anymore!
At Celebration Saunas we have made it our mission to make this timeless luxury available and affordable and easier than ever to put anywhere in your home. Our standalone home sauna kits and commercial sauna kits are designed to stylishly fit into any room of your home or business. Our infrared saunas can safely sit on every surface like carpet, tile, laminate, hardwood & cement. All our 1 and 2 person saunas can be installed and running in under an hour.
2. They’re Expensive to Operate
I understand why you would think that. It’s a big item. Sauna heaters of the past had large electrical requirements. Thankfully, over the years, we have all become more energy conscience and technology advances have made sauna ownership an inexpensive luxury in your home. Many of our largest saunas, if run for 2 hours every day for a month would increase the electric bill $25 and our smallest sauna would cost $11 a month but no one runs the sauna 60 hours a month unless you are running it as a business. Don’t take our word for it. Use our Energy Consumption Calculator to see how much it will cost to run your sauna each month. Enter your own local price per kilowatt hour and The Calculator can also be found on every sauna product page. Most people will operate the sauna 3 to 5 times a week for no more than an hour.
3. Saunas Are Only for Cold Climates
That may have been true with Traditional Steam or Hot Rock Saunas because these saunas use convection heat, like a convection oven. Even I don’t want to sit in an oven if it’s a 100 degrees outside. But Far Infrared Saunas operate at much lower temperatures encouraging your body to sweat by exciting your cells. The astounding health benefits of sweating in a far infrared sauna has found its way to the hottest States in the country like Florida, Texas and Arizona. We even have saunas in Caribbean and Hawaiian resorts. There is nothing like a Far Infrared sauna bath. You have never sweat so much or felt so good.
4. It’s supposed to have Steam!
Not all saunas have steam and when we release steam into the air we are also releasing all the toxic materials contained in that water into the air, then you breathe it in. We’re detoxing in here I don’t want to breathe in toxins. I know what you are thinking and you’re right. Many people can find relief to chest or nasal congestion with the use of steam, but steam will not address the root cause of your congestion but far infrared light can. When we use far infrared light to charge the body with its own energy, all your cells have the energy needed to eliminate waste at the cellular level shaking loose toxins and allergens that are causing inflammation or congestion in the first place. While steam may provide temporary relief only far infrared will eliminate chronic congestion by eliminating the toxins in your lungs causing inflammation. This is only one of the many health benefits associated with far infrared sauna use.
5. Far Infrared is Heat?
Nope Far Infrared is electromagnetic energy that can be used to generate heat. More precisely, it generates radiant heat meaning that it heats an object directly rather than heating the air and then heating the body like in a convection sauna. Infrared energy is naturally occurring from the sun, travels to the earth in wavelengths and is absorbed by all objects. Every object emits and absorbs infrared naturally without harmful effects. In fact, your body is producing and emitting far infrared light in the form of body heat, also called Biophotons, at exactly 9.4 microns of far infrared light the same bandwidth of light we emit in our sauna heaters.
6. Far Infrared radiation can be harmful
– wrong. It’s not like a tanning bed exposing us to harmful cancer causing Ultra Violet (UV) and no, you aren’t going to cook in a far infrared sauna like in a microwave because we are NOT emitting UV or microwaves, we are emitting Manufactured Body Heat, Biophoton or most commonly known as far infrared light. A technology so safe it is used in neonatal units across the country to help babies regulate their own body temperature.
7. It is unsafe to have infrared heaters above your head in the sauna.
No again, remember we are manufacturing body heat a far infrared sauna is no more dangerous than holding hands. Your body will never take on more far infrared light than it needs and your body temperature will never exceed a low grade fever of 100 degrees.
8. Infrared is Infrared Right?
Nope and this is where it gets confusing. Throughout the sauna industry you will see names like Full Spectrum or Biophoton to describe the wavelength a sauna heater is emitting. To confuse things further we have other companies offering near infrared lamps. They are not all the same and it can be difficult to tell them apart. The easiest way to determine what you’re actually getting is to ask the sauna company what the micron range of far infrared light is being emitted. Most sauna companies use heaters that emit between 7 to 14 microns of far infrared light in equal parts. We know that the human body emits far infrared light at 9.4 microns so we manufacture our saunas to match the human body exactly at 9.4 microns. In fact, our heaters emit 8 to 10 microns of far infrared light and 87% of the time it’s exactly 9.4 microns. Far infrared Light spans a bandwidth of 5 to 15 microns. Biophoton far infrared is exactly 9.4 microns.
Is it really Near or Mid Infrared or just a sales pitch? |

9. There are No Real Health Benefits
For me this is seriously laughable. There is more than 50 years of documentation on the benefits of far infrared light on the human body and is regularly used in hospital and clinical settings to regulate the body temperature of premature babies, to produce a safe passive cardiovascular workout for those battling heart disease and to move toxins and parasites out of the body like Lyme, Mold & Heavy Metals. We even use the far infrared technology in Cancer hospitals to detox the toxic medication and because some cancers can’t survive a fever.
10. You can’t get a quality, effective far infrared sauna for less than $3,000.
Obviously, if you have browsed the Celebration Saunas website at all you will see that all our saunas are reasonably priced. We recognize and appreciate this technology for what it is, durable medical equipment and it’s our mission to make this technology affordable and available to those who need it most. Unlike our competitors we own the factories, 3 to be exact. We make our own heaters, we procure our own wood from Canada and we control everything from the factory conditions to the hinges used on the door. We are the only American company who owns the manufacturing facilities. We import 12,000 saunas each year and keep an inventory of 4000 saunas at any one time. We have buying power our competitors can only dream of and we pass that on to our customers. Nose to Toes, we stand behind all our sauna products with a full lifetime warranty where we pay for parts and shipping for as long as you own the sauna.
